Morgan Harrington
Known for her “spectacular” (Monterey Herald) voice filled with “ardent charm” (Classical Sonoma) as well as her “nuanced” (Napa Valley Register) performances, California soprano Morgan Harrington has performed throughout the Bay Area on opera, theater, and concert stages. Roles include Mimì (Puccini’s La Bohème), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Cecily Pigeon (The Odd Couple), Elsa Schraeder (The Sound of Music), Alice Beineke (The Addams Family), Grace Farrell (Annie), and, most recently, Sharon Graham (Master Class), which earned her an SFBATCC nomination for Best Featured Performance - Drama.
In 2022, Morgan was the Gold Winner in the International Friends Division of the Cultures of China Water Cube Cup Chinese Songs Contest. Concert highlights include Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with the Sonoma County Philharmonic and iSING! San Francisco: Hao Jiang Tian with iSING! International Singers at the Herbst Theatre (San Francisco). Additional training highlights include OperaWorks Advanced Artist Program and The Middlebury Language School’s German for Singers Program. Internationally, Morgan has performed Donna Elvira at the Banff Centre’s Opera as Theatre Program in Canada and she has participated twice in the iSING! International Young Artists Festival in China, which included performances with the Hangzhou Symphony Orchestra, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and a concert in Beijing at the Great Hall of the People.
Singing, music, and theater have been lifelong sources of joy, community, and inspiration. As a child and teenager, music, the written word, and performing were Morgan's passport to seeing the world, growing as a human being, exploring new ideas and cultures, meeting new friends, and time-traveling through the ages. The scope and range only became more nuanced and extraordinary with the passing of time.
In addition to private lessons in piano and voice, Morgan studied music at Santa Rosa Jr. College and is a graduate of Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, High Distinction), where she studied with internationally renowned soprano, Carol Vaness. She currently studies with internationally acclaimed soprano and teacher, Sheri Greenawald, who was also the Director of the San Francisco Opera Center for 18 years. In addition, Morgan has completed teacher education in the LoVetri Institute For Somatic Voicework™.
Before joining Sayla Music Academy, Morgan was an instructor at Music to My Ears in Cotati, CA. As a Teaching Artist, Morgan’s credits include the San Francisco Opera Guild’s Opera Together program (formerly Opera à la Carte), Blue Fox Theatre Ensemble productions (formally The Sonoma Valley Shakespeare Company), CSU San Bernardino Opera Theatre (Monkey See, Monkey Do), and the SRJC Summer Opera Festival Seminar with Jeanne Piland and Emily Rawlins Struckmann. Morgan is thrilled to share her love of music and performance and to support others as they walk their own musical journeys, wherever their goals, passions, and life may take them!
When not performing or teaching, Morgan enjoys being in nature, reading, exploring her new Central Valley home, and spending time with her husband and their cats.
