Gaby Montoya
Gaby Montoya began her musical journey in middle school when she joined the local community choir. From there, her love of music began to grow. Throughout her early education, she explored as many avenues of music as she could. Choir grew from concert choir to show choir, chamber choir, gospel chorus, opera chorus, musical theater, and jazz. She joined the Townsend Opera Players (now Opera Modesto) in The Mikado, Carmen, and La Traviata.
In college at San Joaquin Delta College, she was encouraged to pursue music and had the privilege of continuing in fantastic musical opportunities. She pursued an education in vocal performance and was able to sing with the Stockton Symphony in the choruses of Verdi’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, and Carmina Burana. She also furthered her jazz education in the vocal jazz ensemble, as well as performing as a soloist.
She completed her music education at Sacramento State, where she received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. In addition to her classical education, she continued to nurture her love of jazz. She joined the intermediate jazz ensemble, where she developed her jazz skills and had the opportunity to work with Jim Martinez and the New York Voices.
Throughout her college education, Gaby worked in local churches as a soloist and choir section leader. She also began her career in private teaching, traveling to homes and establishing a small studio on her own. Eventually, she began teaching at the School of Rock, focusing on her specialty of vocals while also teaching piano.
Gaby's passion grew into helping students find their voice. She is excited to continue her teaching career at Sayla Music Academy, where she hopes to continue inspiring students to not only pursue music but also to help them build confidence in themselves.
Gaby specializes in a wide variety of vocal styles, such as classical, jazz, musical theater, and many other contemporary genres of music. She has the ability to teach funk, soul, classic rock, metal, pop, country, folk, and is willing to help with anything in between.
